Adult magazine listings removed despite censoring images to comply with eBay policy – what am I missing?

Recently, several of my listings have been removed from eBay in accordance with their Adult Items Policy. I took considerable care to ensure compliance by editing the preview images such that no explicit content, such as nipples, areolas, or private parts, was visible. After reviewing their policy thoroughly, I believed my listings adhered to the guidelines.
Upon removal of a listing, eBay cites the Adult Items Policy but fails to specify the exact infraction. This has left me quite perplexed, despite my concerted efforts to modify covers and images appropriately, my listings continue to be taken down.
I am reaching out to see if others have faced similar challenges recently. Is there an unpublicized rule or a new enforcement mechanism that might be eluding us? I would greatly appreciate insights from anyone who has successfully listed similar items without removal. What strategies have proven effective for you?
My intention is not to seek loopholes—I genuinely wish to adhere to eBay’s rules. I would welcome any advice or tips from fellow sellers on how to navigate these regulations more effectively.
Furthermore, I am curious to know if those successfully selling vintage adult magazines on eBay are encountering similar issues—is your content remaining listed, or do you experience removals despite thorough censorship? I am trying to ascertain whether this is an isolated incident or a broader issue related to policy enforcement.

Do NOT try to relist even if an agent says it's ok as they can't reset the bots. If you relist then you can be suspended.

I don't have "the list" either, but the Sept 1984 Penthouse is certainly on it. That's the issue that contained the photo layout of 16 year old Traci Lords. I possess a copy of that issue and she looks plenty grown up to me, so it's understandable that the editors were fooled by her fake identification.

OP1 month agoYou’re referring to the art pinup style model “comics” made by the company “bangers” with this? I didn’t know they made anything that was a creation of any character that could be considered underage.
Appreciate your reply but my question is still mainly concerning The “Bangers” comics that just contain fake pinup style cosplay models. Some are drawn and others are computer generated but none are real. Also, none are engaged in anything sexual and all required body areas needing to be covered have always been fully covered.. I actually spoke to someone today and they flat out refused to give me a straight answer claiming if they told me the specific reason my listings were taken down then I could somehow utilize this information as a workaround to sneak past their policy detection…When I pressed and stated that leaves me in a place of complete confusion because as far as I can see I’m obeying everything stated in their policy they then proceeded to say they would not be able to answer my question and immediately disconnected from me.
This is a serious problem. 90% of my listings and sales are from these sort of books so to be told I can’t and when I ask why I’m essentially being cited “because you can’t:…” I don’t want to find a workaround or even challenge eBay’s policies. I simply want them to tell me what I need to do to be “compliant” because whatever it is, it’s not listed in the policy they continue to cite.

Sorry but you didn't specify the type of adult magazine before. The answer is still the same though... yes listings get removed by the bots incorrectly sometimes.
If you try to relist you can be suspended, even if an agent okay's as they can't reset the bots.

Not sure how telling me exactly the way I’m “violating” policy would actually enable me to get past that policy either. That doesn’t seem to make any sense to me.
I feel if eBay is going to allow these types of comics or books to be sold at all with the conditions they list then they should be able to easily point to whatever specific area of their policy someone is breaking when they claim they are in violation.

Mentor1 month agoI don't have the list, but I know certain issues of Playboy are not allowed. Someone may come along and post the list. There may be other titles with banned issues.
