Additional shipping?
I made an offer for an item on eBay. Seller accepted my offer and the purchase was completed through PayPal automatically. Later I got a message from the seller saying that the actual shipping was (a higher amount than she listed.). I didn’t respond because the purchase was made. In the meantime she has provided a tracking number, but hasn’t shipped.
Can she demand more money?

Mentor2 years agoWhile I agree that sellers need to honor their sale, I will add that in their defense lately the shipping has been a bit of a mess.
Prices have gone up on some options and its very easy to make a small mistake and they end up basically making nothing on an item, potentially even paying to have sold and shipped it.
While I don't know the particulars in your case, I can see why that would occur. We get questions from sellers about this very subject, and our first response is that they should honor the sale. But in the end, its up to them what they should do.
A seller that cancels a sale in this case will get a defect on their account. So no, they do get penalized. 2 defects and their account will start getting restrictions. Its a pretty serious offense.

Mentor2 years agoNo. The seller should NOT have messaged you to ask for more shipping money. If the seller made a mistake, s/he is responsible to cover the difference because it is up to the seller to include accurate information on the package so ebay can accurately calculate the shipping cost from the seller's zip code to the buyer's zip code.
Go to your Purchase History and locate the purchased item. What is the last estimated delivery date? You have up to 30 days past that date in order to file an Item Not Received case, to get your money back.
If it is past the 30 day limit, you will need to log into Paypal and file an
Item Not Received case there, if that is how you paid, as they allow up to 180 days from date of purchase to file, to get your money back.
If you paid with a credit card, file a charge back with your credit card issuer.

OP2 years agoeBay told me, once I finally was able to connect with a real person, that I could get my money back. But what I really want is the item at the price I paid. Seems like the seller can back out of the deal and reliat with no repercussions. That seems quite u fair.
