accurate search
I don't understand why i waste so much time having specified a particular item , in this case " Sony VAIO PCG-Z1RSP" and i get every type of Sony computer , every type of battery for Sony ( various) and various other spare parts etc. if i wanted a battery i would ask for one , if i wanted an SSD i would ask for one . is there a proper search system to either get what i ask for , or get told there isn't one ? Its such a waste of time , when a simple search should just yield what i am looking for . Any ideas please how to better use search efficiently ?

Mentor2 years agoThe following search seems to find reasonable looking results using your keywords:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=Sony+VAIO+PCG-Z1RSP&_sacat=0&_sop=10
If you are searching using "Best Match" sort order, that sort order lately seems to be providing additional results using similar keywords. Limiting to the Memory category should help with that, if necessary.
Putting quotes around one of your keywords should eliminate any keyword substitution as well.

OP2 years agoThank you for this , but again , using your given link , i get batteries , RAM, memory, heat sinks , other parts and a variety of computers nothing to do with the quoted specific computer .....in fact i cannot see even one computer of the type specified ? So surely the search should respond with - "NOTHING FOUND" . if i want RAM i would ask for RAM.

Mentor2 years agoI see now you are in the UK.
In the US, my search returns seven memory results that ship to my location, currently.
If I search on ebay.co.uk using the same keywords, I do see many additional results in other categories.
I can use quotes to force eBay to return only exact matches for your keywords:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=Sony+VAIO+%22PCG-Z1RSP%22&_sop=10&LH_PrefLoc=2&_fcid=3&_oac=1
in fact i cannot see even one computer of the type specified ?
If you cannot find one computer, that is an indication that none are listed that match your search.
So surely the search should respond with - "NOTHING FOUND" .
When you search using keywords, you are asking eBay to find listings that match your keywords. eBay did find some listings (and many more that matched "related" keywords). If you limit your results to exact keywords only, there are some results returned -- memory -- that contain all your keywords, and that is what eBay shows you.
eBay hates to return "nothing found"; eBay would much rather return results matching fewer words since that might lead you to a better search that actually finds some results you are interested in.
