Account was hacked and hacker ordered and already picked up the order
Summary: kingdomofwinds22_6 shared their experience of an unauthorized $1,151.61 charge on their Amex account for a Garmin watch purchased through their Ebay account, which was hacked. The item was shipped to an old address and picked up by a scammer from a UPS Access Point. Despite contacting Ebay customer support, UPS, and filing a dispute with Amex, kingdomofwinds22_6 received no resolution, with Amex holding them responsible for the charge. jacbarcollectibles advised that since all options have been tried, reporting to the police and checking with the insurance company are the next steps.
At 5 PM on 9/10/2026, I noticed that this $1,151.61 charge was made to my Amex account at around 8
am in the morning. I checked my Ebay because that was what the charge was for and I saw that
someone had accessed my account and purchased a Garmin watch and shipped to one of my
old addresses. Again, I noticed all this at around 5 PM, and by then the seller had already shipped the
item so they could not cancel it as I requested.
I asked a friend who still lives near my old address to try to intercept the package so I could
send it back. However, the scammer requested that the package be held at a UPS Access Point
and picked it up from there on 9/11/2026.
I have tried multiple things. I was in conversation with the seller, but they said they could not do
anything about it which is understandable. I have tried contacting Ebay customer support, but all
they have is an AI chat. I request to speak to a human and it says one will call me in 30 minutes,
but I receive no call. I have tried this three times. I have filed a claim with UPS since they say
that their policy is to check ID when someone picks up a package. However, they resolved the
investigation on 9/16/2026 and said that there is proof of delivery and therefore no problem. I filed a dispute with AMEX but they closed it and said I'm responsible for the charge. Is there anything I can do???

Mentor1 week agoI am sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately you have done all you can do. eBay cannot help as someone had your log in information which allowed them to purchase something on the site and change the address for delivery. This person also had your credit card information to make the purchase.
Since your credit card will not help you then all you can really do is to report this to your police department and ask your insurance company if you have any coverage for this kind of thing.
