Accepted Offers & Non-Payments
Anyone else wish that when you accept an offer from a buyer or you send an offer and the buyer accepts, that it should be treated like Buy It Now? I feel that if someone is sending me an offer that means they are wanting to puchase the item and they have the means to purchase. It's just frustrating that it can't be set up for automatic payment. On the 3rd day, I send an email reminding them the order will automatically cancel after 4 days of non payment and I get no response. I've even offered to cancel the order if they've changed their mind and I get no response. I mean, yeah, ebay automatically relists the item, but it's a shame the item is off the market. I'm not a big store by any means, but it's a consideration thing. As a buyer, I've never sent an offer and waited to pay for it. I only send offers if I'm serious and have the means to pay for the item. Same if a seller sends me an offer. If I accept, I pay right away. It's a simple concept really...lol Anyway, rant over, just wondering if I'm the only one that feels this way.

To add to @lady_madonna 's advice...
If you accept an offer, the buyer is obligated to pay (just like he his for Buy It Now purchases and auction wins). Don't send additional invoices - that just extends the length of time the buyer has to pay. When a buyer doesn't pay for a committed purchase, here's what to do...
If a buyer hasn't paid by day five, select the cancellation option in the dropdown next to the order using the reason that the buyer hasn't paid. The buyer will earn an unpaid item strike on his account. Two or more and his ability to buy will be limited or even ended.
Add the buyer to your blocked buyer list here:
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements
Scroll down that page and turn on the option to auto-block buyers with 2 or more unpaid items within 12 months. That will help to protect you from repeat offenders.

I checked my settings and I have all of that checked, but I'm still getting buyers that aren't having to pay immediately. It always seems to be buyers with a 0-5 rating, as well.

You can set your preferences so that if you accept an offer, it will be automatically paid for.
Go to the buyer management page:
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements
Scroll down to the very bottom and CHECKMARK "Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer"

I just checked my settings and it is checked. This is what it said on the "info" icon: "Removing this requirement may lead to more unpaid items. Setting will apply to future offers. Currently, this impacts only a select group of buyers." Is there something else I need to do in the settings?

·2 years agoThe part about the "select group of buyers" should no longer be there; there were a couple of years of experimenting with the setting (which requires buyers to pre-authorize payment from the payment source and eBay does immediately automatically charge the card/source when you accept; there may be situations where the money that is supposed to be there from the pre-authorization is not actually there for the auto-payment) with a limited (which got bigger and bigger) buyer test group, but the program was made permanent including all buyers in Fall 2023.
eBay is now experimenting with requiring immediate payment when a buyer accepts an offer from the seller. Check your form to submit the particular offer/counteroffer for an option to invoke that (it should be there if you are within the test group of sellers, if not you are probably not in the test group).

I appreciate your detailed explanation. I haven't seen anything on the form, so I'm probably not part of the test group. 😣
