Absolute Chaos - Shipped 1 unit instead of 3 units
A buyer ordered 3 units. I requested a UPS shipping label (buyer pays for shipping) thinking they only ordered 1 unit. Initially, the weight of the product on the shipping label was three times the weight of one unit (120 lbs) but still the same dimensions and only 1 QR code. I thought eBay made a mistake and adjusted the weight to 40 lbs (1 unit). I shipped 1 unit and it was delivered. The buyer messaged me yesterday asking where the remaining 2 units are. I realized I made a mistake and bought another shipping label for 80 lbs thinking that would cover the 2 units and that I could use 1 QR code because I assumed eBay must be right. I went to UPS to ship out the 2 units with the single QR code and they said I needed two separate QR codes for two separate labels. They voided the shipping label. I come back to my computer to cancel the shipping label and now it says the label has been used and can't be cancelled.
I'm thinking I should refund the buyer for the 2 units and the shipping cost for the 2 units and have them reorder individually BUT what about the selling fees, ad fees, and taxes already taken out. How do I recoup those costs? How do I recoup the shipping label cost? Why doesn't eBay automatically produce separate QR codes for each unit?

OP2 years agoThe buyer paid roughly $133 for shipping for the 3 units because eBay automatically generated the label as a single unit at 120 lbs. 1 unit at 40 lbs (the correct weight) costs roughly $75. This means the buyer should’ve paid $225 for shipping for the 3 units. I’ll be down $92 on the transaction if pay for 2 more labels.

Mentor2 years agoSorry, but your mistake is going to cost you that amount. If you cancel the other two items, you will get a unhappy buyer, a ding on your account, and still get stuck paying ebay fees, plus have to refund the over charge on shipping the first item.
The only way to maybe make this work is to check the cost of shipping the two remaining items in one package if possible. While ebay limits UPS label to 70 pounds, get a price from PirateShip to do the single 80 pound package.
