A crazy buyer with crazy reasons for a return…
I have someone crazy wanting to return a coffee maker because they are not happy it was made in china (I never advertised it was otherwise!) and they say because it’s made in China, it will release harmful chemicals they don’t want. Seems like an insane basis for a return, given almost everything is made in China these days. What to do? It just feels like a real **bleep** reason to return an item that was advertised and sold exactly as it is, and for reasons which are both unreasonable and completely unsubstantiated. Best way to deal with this nonsense, please? Thank you 🙂

While the espresso maker you sold has a good reputation, the buyer may have encountered an item made in China that caused real harm. If so, it's perfectly understandable to want to stay away from those items. She has no idea if you are reputable or not as you have such little selling experience on eBay.
I googled information about this item and see that it is made of European-crafted stainless steel. However, it may still be assembled in China. By knowing what you're selling, you can do a better job of writing an item description that contains the information the buyer would want to know.
Best way to deal with this? Rather than focus on your view that this is nonsense, focus on being a good seller and take care of your buyer's concern.
Better to accept the item back so you can sell it to someone else rather than have eBay refund her from your account, allow her to keep the item, and award you with a defect on your selling metrics. As a new/occasional seller, that could be devastating to your ability to sell in the future.
