Did you use Reserve price on an auction? There is a $5 minimum fee for Reserve price or 7.5% of the reserve, whichever is greater.
Always start auctions at a price you will be happy with if you get just one bid.
Any fee you see at the bottom of the screen when you list an item is due even if the item doesn't sell. Most items are free to list as long as you don't use optional upgrades like reserve price, bold title, etc.
