Not four times though. There's something wrong on your end. As previously advised, it's likely the clock in your device. Are you using a desk top computer? How old is that bad boy? In the early ages of computer technology, computers had a stand alone clock that you could set yourself . . . make that had to set yourself. Modern computers sync their clock with the Naval Observatory. Maybe it's time to spring for an upgrade. Good luck.

If your auction countdown is not behaving correctly, check to make sure your computer's time is set correctly, and the date and time are synchronized with an internet time server such as time.windows.com or time.gov.

If your computer's time is too fast or too slow, that can prevent you from bidding at the end of an auction. Either your computer will think the auction is over when it is not, preventing you from bidding, or else you will think you have more time left when the auction is about to end. Neither situation helps you. Set your computer's time to automatically synchronize to prevent this from happening.

This is normal on eBay and it confuses a lot of people.

What you’re seeing is proxy bidding. When someone places a higher max bid earlier, eBay automatically keeps increasing their bid in the background to beat yours. So even if it looks like there’s time left, the system can instantly jump past your bid.

It didn’t end early, it just looks that way because the price updated instantly.

Best move next time is to enter your true maximum bid earlier, or use a sniping service like https://www.gixen.com/main/index.php
