3rd party authenticator issues with sports trading cards
Anyone else have issues with 3rd party authenticators? I’ve had 2 separate instances recently where I sent cards in for authentication and they were in pristine condition, but in both instances the authenticator stated there were defects (small dents/indentations) present on the cards and buyer declined to purchase as a result. I have no issues with the buyers, as I would do the same if I were in their positions, but I looked over both of these cards METICULOUSLY before I listed them, during the process of photographing them, and again before I shipped them. They were sent in penny sleeves, then top loaded, then sandwiched between rigid card protectors, then bubble wrapped, and finally inserted into a bubble mailer. So I know they weren’t damaged during shipping, they were practically bomb proof! But sure enough, when I received them back, they both had indentations present that I know weren’t there when I sent them. These weren’t just any cards either, one is a Cooper DeJean purple power auto /49 out of 2024 Prism FOTL, and the other is a Steph Curry jersey patch auto /12 out of 2022 Flawless! Now I have damaged cards that will undoubtedly be a hard sell. I doubt there is anything I can do at this point, so I’m mostly just frustrated, furious, and venting to whomever wants to listen. Just curious if anyone else is having the same issues? For reference, it was two different authenticators in entirely different states.
