1975 U.S. Mint set.
I sold an original, in the original packaging 1975 mint set. The buyer returned it because it has some bicentennial coins. The year 1975 as many of you may know, comes issued from the mint with these coins. If you look at other listings anywhere on the internet, you will see these coins as listed. E-bay is charging the seller (me) postage for the return. Has anyone sold a 1975 mint set and had the buyer upset because the set included bicentennial coins? Thank you

Mentor4 months agoAbout six years ago. The buyer left me neutral feedback, but kept the proof set.
My selling ID had inherited a small coin collection after my brother died. I also wondered the same thing about the 1975 proof set, why the quarter, half-dollar, and dollar coins showed the dates "1776-1976" under the portrait instead of simply "1975," which the dime, nickel, and penny show.
So I googled and found out that -- in True Fact -- there are NO US quarters, half-dollar coins, or dollar coins dated 1975. The US Treasury apparently wanted to get a head start on the bicentennial observances and went ahead with the bicentennial dates on coins of those three values: 25, 50, and 100 cents.
My buyer's neutral feedback was that that 1975 proof set, although all my photos were accurate -- gee, thanks, pal -- three of those coins in it had those "wrong" dates. My photos showed those coins with the "1776-1976" dates !! And he bought that proof set anyway !!
I wondered if he thought either my brother or I had opened the 1975 proof set and replaced those three coins with the dates "1776-1976." And then resealed the plastic packaging so expertly that it was indistinguishable from the way it looked on the day the Treasury issued it. Right.
People who know, know. If I were you, I'd relist that set, and add a sentence into the Item Description explaining why the 1975 proof set has three coins that say "1776-1976."
As to why eBay is charging you postage for the return, that is because your refund/return policy is that you will pay return postage. You cannot change that now. You will have to pay the return postage. You'll probably be able to include it in the deductions which may reduce your taxable income from eBay sales next year.
