Is Anyone Able to IDENTIFY these small tools within a tin holder. Are they used by a Taxidermist?
Can someone possibly tell me what these tools were made for? I believe the tin holder they came in dates to the late 1700's to early 1800's and the artwork on the front is of a man with a stick chasing after his dog who has successfully found a rabbit or hare to bite into. Given the artwork on the front of the tin holder my thoughts are that these tools could be used in hunting, skinning, taxidermy? Could these also be something someone who weaves, knits or crochet uses?

·1 year agoI believe these tools are for use with a method called Tunnel Stitching / Channel tools- used to cut the grooves in soles so that the leather would close over the sewing. Used in shoe making

·1 year agoYou may be on to something there. I use homemade tools that are similar to press grooves into cased leather (wetted for readers that don't know) so my stitches lie below the surface and don't get worn, abraded etc. on knife sheaths.
Also some seem to have an awl on the other end which I also use in stitching leather.
