Brass? Trinket Box Marking
I have what I think is brass but not positive trinket box. How do I know if it’s brass? Magnet doesn’t attract. It got a silver colored cat on top. And on the back it is marked “73â€. I’m just trying to find out if it’s brass and what the 73 means.

·1 year agoI think you may have a "field art" piece made from a circa WW1 German artillery shell casing, probably a 9 Cm Kanone C 73 (and yes, it is brass).

·1 year agoI have this identical piece except mine has 15 marked in the same areas. I have yet to learn what this was for.

·1 year agoThe best way to test for brass is to scratch an inconspicuous spot. If it's brass the scratch will show bright yellow.
