American primitive style snow scene painting
I just found this interesting American primitive style snow scene.
It's painted on a board and on the back you can see it is very aged.
I believe painting on panel goes back several hundred years. I'm not so sure about what kind of panel this is
There is some repaired damage on the lower left.
I am wondering about the age. It is on a panel that is backed with cloth.
I'm not sure if its cloth backing or that is the back with canvas or something different on the front.

·1 year agoIt's very difficult to tell from the photo, but to me that doesn't look like a cloth backing. It looks like the texture of Masonite or pressboard. The frame is modern, so just from the photos I'm not seeing any indication that there's any great age to the painting.

·1 year agoI agree. I also don't see the aging I'd expect on the painting itself.
Looks to be what some call outsider art. Art that is created not using conventional tecniques like canvas etc.
In the lower left corner of the painting it looks almost like it was maybe done on paper then affixed to a textured panel. Maybe affixed before painted and that spot came loose and was then repaired?
Either way not all that old in my humble opinion.
