Turn Browsers into Buyers: Your Q4 Marketing Playbook
Q4 is your biggest opportunity of the year, so we want to equip you with a powerful suite of tools to help turn browsers into buyers – without sacrificing margin. During our Winter Seller Check-In, I asked attendees to send me their holiday questions. Many were about marketing your listings, so we created a practical playbook of tools for peak season.
Q1: What tools should I use to get more customers to my listings?
Your Store subscription is more than branding — it’s your access pass to high-impact merchandising tools. Use them to create demand, reward repeat shoppers, and move inventory strategically.
- Coupons: Deploy targeted, time-bound coupons to convert high-intent shoppers. Keep thresholds tight (for example, $10 off $75+) to protect margin while nudging larger baskets. Pair with seasonal themes — “Gifts under $20,” “Last-Minute Deals” — and promote them in your Store and marketing channels.
- Markdown Events: Plan longer marketing events around key moments (Black Friday, Cyber Week, last-ship dates). Refresh the event weekly so returning shoppers see something new. Use shorter markdowns on items with strong demand to help capture sales without eroding profit.
- Volume Pricing: Encourage multi-item purchases with tiered discounts (buy 2, save 5%; buy 3, save 10%). This works especially well for accessories, consumables, or variants. Call out the savings in your item descriptions and images to make the value obvious.
- Offers to Buyers: Set smart automations for sending and responding to offers. Convert watchers with modest discounts and add an expiration to create urgency. Use counteroffers strategically — anchor close to your target margin and sweeten with combined shipping or volume pricing to lift average order value (AOV).

Pro tip: Build a calendar now. Map your coupon windows, markdown events, and offer automations against key shipping cutoffs and traffic peaks. Consistency beats one-off blasts.
Q2: How can I target past customers when I have new inventory?
Newsletters and Buyer Groups help you reach the right customers at the right time with the right message. Think “segments first, promotions second.”
Creating Buyer Groups
Speaking to buyers directly through newsletters is one of the most effective ways to drive engagement, encourage repeat purchases, and keep your business top of mind. Tailoring your message and content to your unique audience strengthens the relationship and supports long-term sales.
To get the most out of your newsletters, use eBay’s Buyer Groups to segment customers based on how they’ve interacted with your Store. That way, you can tailor what you send and when you send it, so your newsletter feels relevant to them and valuable to you.
Broadly speaking, you can reach two main types of buyers through newsletters:
- Past buyers
- Followers
From there, you can get more specific. As a starting point, most Stores will have past buyers who can be further split into two categories with subcategories as well.
- Repeat buyers
- One-time buyers
- Category purchased from your Store
- How long they’ve been following you
- Buyers who bought in the last 30, 60, or 90 days
Creating Newsletters
When sending a newsletter, select a Buyer Group as the recipient. This lets you personalize your message — whether you’re sending exclusive offers that reward loyalty, running category-specific sales, or promoting new stock.
Send concise, value-forward emails highlighting new arrivals, limited-time deals, and curated gift guides. Include clear calls to action and hand-picked collections (for example, “Top Gifts for Kids for 2025,” “Top Selling Dresses”). Schedule sends on a strategic cadence for your business and around major shopping moments to keep momentum without fatigue.
Track send times, open rates, click-throughs, and conversions. If a segment underperforms, adjust the offer or tighten the audience. If a campaign is successful, replicate the structure for future sends.
- Watch how the Seller Advocacy team suggests using Buyer Groups and Newsletters for the holiday season.
Delivering success during the holiday season is about precision. Align the right promotional tool with the right audience at the right moment. Use eBay’s marketing tools to create compelling, margin-smart offers, and amplify them through Newsletters and Buyer Groups. Build your calendar, execute consistently, and keep testing. That’s how you turn browsers into buyers — and buyers into loyal customers.
