Approximate Location in Sign In Email
Summary: trustrdp inquires about the accuracy of the approximate location shown in eBay sign-in emails, noting discrepancies such as different countries or cities. They seek clarification on how eBay determines this location and whether these discrepancies affect account security or standing.
Hi,
I have a quick question about the approximate location shown in eBay sign in emails.
Sometimes the email shows a different country or city from my actual location. For example, it may show the United States or Turkey even though I am not there.
I noticed that eBay Community mentions that this location can be provided by the network provider.
Can someone please clarify how eBay determines this approximate location and whether it is normal for it to show an incorrect country or city?
Does this have any impact on account security or account standing?
Thank you.

·2 weeks ago@trustrdp , I have noticed incorrect locations in emails like that as well.
This is because of your internet or wifi provider.
In my case, the location is NEVER actually correct. It usually shows a larger city right next to my city, which is less than 5 miles away. But recently, it is showing other cities in my state, ranging from very close to about 200 miles away. However, occasionally it says a different city in another state, about 725 miles away.
I would say that it least it is relatively common to have the location not be accurate.
Some buyers in the US have reported being blocked from purchasing restricted items (usually related to firearms) and this may be why. That is the only consequence I have heard about.
