Why bother listing if you have to give it away?

How does the authentication process for gemstone jewelry work? Does the customer have to wait long to get their item? What if they lose my item? If it passes inspection am I informed? Do they mail it to the customer? If it doesn't pass do they return...

How can anyone sell valuable items on Ebay when there are no seller protections? Buyers know to just claim everything is not as described and return an empty box and Ebay refunds them and close the case. You don't get any sales to absorb your losses....
