Buyer asked for return and was auto approved and was to sent back by today...

Buyer asked for a return and Ebay said they asked them to return the item to me by today and I have not recieved the item nor has any tracking been uploaded so I am curious as to what I have to do next and if after today I am no longer obligated to give a refund?  Thanks in advance

It only had to be shipped by today. If there's no tracking showing its been shipped by tomorrow you can call customer service and ask them to close the request.

As MissJen said, call CS asap to get this closed.  But don't ask them, "Tell them".    Chances are the buyer probably changed their mind about returning.
