USPS Packages Arriving Late, No Scans, Lost Or Looping Back & Forth-This Is Why...

As I write this another one of my packages that I am waiting to receive from an Ebay seller has gone AWOL. I posted this on the shipping forum and somebody said I should show these photos on a separate thread.

Here is my original post so you can hear how another one of my USPS packages seems to have ended up going to the wrong place:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Shipping-Returns/Since-Covid19-The-USPS-Is-Really-Dropping-The-Ball-An...

I saw post on post on Reddit (r/USPS) and one of the postal workers showed a photo of what is going on behind the scenes at one of the hubs in New Jersey. He said Amazon is killing them! They are flooded with Amazon packages clogging everything up and bottle necking the facilities.

usps 3.jpg

If you are a seller on Ebay, Etsy or any other online seller, this is why a lot of our packages are not getting scanned and seem to be going AWOL or taking a very long time to arrive. My mail carrier, whom I love, told me that Amazon is getting away with murder. He said that Amazon only pays the USPS $2 per package no matter how heavy or large it is. We in return are subsidizing Amazon and are paying top dollar to make up for their losses.

For example, ever since the rates went up again, a package I send from the East Coast to the West Coast that once cost me around $15 to ship is now costing me on average $48-$58. Anything going in a box over 12"x12"x12" is being considered over sized.

Items that only weigh two to three pounds and are light weight are being charged outrageous prices to ship. Most of my items are not even that large and generally go in boxes about 14"x12x"12". I am being run out of business as other carriers are not that much cheaper. Since the USPS needs room on their tiny mail trucks for Amazon packages, we are being penalized for anything in a box over a cubic foot.

Now with Covid19, not only are we mere peasants paying these outrageous shipping costs, to add insult to injury our customer's packages are taking forever to arrive, not being scanned or going missing. Every time I have to ship something out, or order something on Ebay, I hold my breath not knowing how long it will take to arrive or once again go missing. Amazon packages are being given precedence over ours and our shipments are being held up while Amazon's are being given more importance over ours.

Here are some other screenshots I took from the mail carriers showing how inundated they are with Amazon packages that I saw on Reddit (r/USPS). I understand we are dealing with a Pandemic here and post offices are short staffed, but for God's sake this is ridiculous. We should not have to wait 11-30 days for a First Class or Priority Mail package to arrive. The USPS needs to handle this better.

I needed to vent. Thanks for listening...

We get our Amazon packages from people driving Amazon trucks. I thought that meant there is an Amazon warehouse in the area and they pay people to drive to houses. I'm in Northern Virginia.

I read a while ago that Amazon is going to stop doing their own deliveries in June and send their packages thru UPS and Fedex.  Those workers are needed in the warehouses.

Re: USPS Packages Arriving Late, No Scans, Lost Or Looping Back & Forth-This Is Why...

For those of you still following this thread, we are in a heap of trouble and the USPS delays are getting worse.

Here is what other's are saying on some non-ebay forums:

"Currently, I have 18 packages in the dreaded "In transit to next facility" phase. Some of them with shipping dates due for late March, mid May.

The oldest of them are two 56 pound boxes of books headed to an apartment in Brooklyn, NY. Tracking says they are currently in the Jersey City, NJ distribution facility- but the tracking has showed that since April 6th. I finally filed the insurance claim for the packages and spoke to the post office claims department about it.

The person I spoke to said she has worked for the post office for 30 years- 20 at a store (what they call the local branches you go into to mail stuff) and 10 years in the claims department. She told me that there are many facilities that are severely understaffed at the moment and that mail is just being stored anywhere and everywhere and that it will take quite some time to get it all delivered.

Some facilities are so jammed with mail, that it is even being stored at off-site storage facilities that the post office is leasing. She was sure that the size and weight of my packages turned off the carrier and they just put them in the overflow pile not wanting to deal with such heavy boxes right now. Not comforting, but she did approve my claims and I have already received my money and refunded the buyer.

For the foreseeable future, all my shipments will go out fully insured. This whole mess has to be costing the post office dearly".

And another:

"It's just piling up at places and they can't handle it all. I also asked what the process would be for delivery when things get better- like will the oldest stuff there get delivered first and the woman I spoke to said probably not as that stuff is probably buried the furthest and that the stuff on top would most likely be first. Not good".

So basically they are so behind, they are leasing off site storage facilities for all the mail and packages they cannot deliver right now. If your package or customer's package is buried under a mountain of mail, it will be the last package to get delivered 😲

I forgot to add- Yet they still have the nerve to charge me $52 for a 4 pound package that is only 14"x14"x14 that is going from New York to California 😡

Re: USPS Packages Arriving Late, No Scans, Lost Or Looping Back & Forth-This Is Why...

Update:

2 of my packages are still really late and in limbo. One was was shipped out from St. Louis to my address in Long Island (New York) on May 8th and it was estimated to arrive on the 15th. It is now May 26th and the last time the tracking was updated was on the 19th. It has still not left St. Louis! I am working with my seller and doing my best to be patient. She is a nice seller and I feel bad causing her grief.

My other package was coming from Hungary and it has no scanned tracking updates since May 9th. God only knows where it is right now. I tried filing an "Item Not Received" claim today because the estimated date of arrival was today, but ebay said to wait until later on to file a claim. I don't have a feeling this one will arrive and bet it is lost.

Since this has been going on, I have been avoiding ordering on eBay because of the slow shipping for things I don't want to wait two to three weeks for. I am placing all of my orders on Amazon right now. However, now Amazon's 2 Day Prime is no longer being honored and a few of my things are saying they won't be received for 5-10 days.  Wow! this is crazy.

I understand we are in the middle of a pandemic, but this is really getting ridiculous! Here are some screenshots showing how late these packages are. Ahh! I feel better getting this off of my chest. Rant Over, lol. Are any of you dealing with late or missing packages too?

Re: USPS Packages Arriving Late, No Scans, Lost Or Looping Back & Forth-This Is Why...

So to those sellers who have had packages stuck in the "In Transit" stage for over a month now, what can we do when it comes to our buyers? I've sent missing mail search requests weeks ago, called facilities, sent emails, and noted all these things to the buyers. Still getting people who are opening up item not received cases and messaging me that they want their money back. Incredibly frustrating for every party involved. Not sure what else to do anymore.
