Has anyone else had to do a cancel per buyers request lately?
I just did one 2 days ago & was surprised to see that now when you cancel ebay will now just relist the item for you . You have no choice
This may be an attempt to stop sellers from trying to cancel for an out of stock and using the incorrect reason.
Because I didn't take notice to how many listings I used or had left for the month My question is are they relisting & using a listing from my allotment ?
If so that's kind of tricky for sellers , This item may have had 29 days left and already used 1 of my listings for the month now I cancel per buyers request & maybe I'm not ready to relist it until next cycle if it is using one of my listings
@Anonymous
Can you clarify if this is a new thing we can all expect from now on & if the relist is coming from our allotment .
Thanks

This was announced in the Spring Seller Update. If you don't want it to relist you have to uncheck the pre-selected box. It affects returns as well as cancellations.
If you use the out of stock feature you are not affected by "easy relists".

No, you will not be charged for any additional insertion fees or listing upgrades that were applied in the original listing.

Now when ever you cancel an order eBay for whatever reason added the option to
have them automatically relist the Item for you.
Naturally By default they have it already cheeked to relist and it is easy to miss.
If you don't want them to relist it you need to uncheck the box before you proceed.

I think they did that for "returns" as well on the refund screen.

Can someone screen cap the box?
I had someone buy an item a few weeks ago and message me immediately that the date on the coin didn't match the holder (I think the appraiser at the shop needs glasses... I need glasses, so I rely on him to properly identify, but the dates are really small sometimes). Anyway it auto relisted and I had to hurry up and find it and cancel it before it sold again.
I knew there was a box I could uncheck, but I didn't see that on any of the screens when I went through the process. Yes, definitely easy to miss.

Before you hit the big easy button to refund and relist, I believe it is on the opposite side of that same screen in the form of a tiny box to uncheck.

So it is working as intended.

Did a "buyer request" cancel yesterday.
When doing it a "not eligible for relist" flashed on the screen during the process.
Wasn't sure what that was all about, but now understand that was shown because it was a fixed price listing with OOS.

General reply
Thanks all
I will have to take more care next time to watch but I really can't recall seeing the uncheck box
I can't believe I missed this in the Spring update... But I did !!!
And the funny thing is this remark from the FAQ
It mentions just returned item but not mentioning cancellations .
Will Relisting a returned or cancelled item be optional
You will be able to deselect the preselected check mark in the default checkbox if you don't wish to relist the returned item
But further down it does say
Will the checkbox be easy to find
The checkbox will be available within each listing within the cancellation and return flows, prior to submitting the cancellation or refund.

Was yours a refund or cancellation?
I remember the Big Blue button on my cancel was on the right side not like the above screen shot for refund on the left.
But again I may have missed it & will be certain to pay closer attention if I get another cancellation .
