Financials on an eBay Sale:
Sold 2 RAM memory sticks for $14.99
I received $5.72 out of the $14.99, 35% of the selling price!
I don’t see how eBay sellers make a profit.
Breakdown:
Payment $14.99 100%
Shipping $ 6.88 46%
$ 8.11 54%
eBay Fee $ 2.39 16%
Payout $ 5.72 35%

Really easy actually, been making great profit for several years now. Looks like fee's weren't the issue for you but the fact that YOU did not charge shipping at all or didn't charge enough shipping to cover the shipping cost. That is not eBay's fault, that is YOUR fault. Next time make sure to crunch all the numbers before you sell something to make sure it's actually worth your time to go thru the process of listing it.

I have to agree with @laststopgeneralstore . You listed this with free shipping so yes-you sold this item for $8.11 with a payout of $5.72.

Agree with @laststopgeneralstore. Offering free shipping is the killer.

Since you chose to offer free shipping rather than having the buyer pay for shipping, you really sold that item for $8.11, not $14.99. So you really kept 70+% of the selling price, not $35%.
Smart eBay sellers make a profit by checking the fees and shipping cost before they list an item and choose a price, not afterward.

I sell ram memory on occasion when I do an upgrade. I always offer free shipping, but I add that cost to the asking price.
First, at $14.99, that means you sold each stick for $7.50 without accounting for free shipping. That's too low. And the total package weight would be 4 ounces or less, so at the most your shipping cost should have been $4.36. You should always calculate the fees and shipping cost prior to listing an item. If you had done that your net profit would have been $10 or more.

Free shipping isn't "free", you still have to pay for it. 😂

The electricity seems to be off in here.
WHO pays the shipping makes no difference in the total you received.
You got $14.99 and shipped for free.
You could have sold for $2 and charged $12.99 for shipping. (your NET remains the same either way)
The best I can tell.
You could not have sold those for more than $14.99 due to competition.
Now then, you want to know how to make a profit selling two sticks for $5.72? Pay less than $5.72 for the two sticks.
How to make a living on eBay doing that? Do it a thousand times a day.
