This week, someone I know received a message from ebay saying they'd need to provide their SSN because they're over $600 in sales. I'm wondering, will ebay actually send them a 1099k though as their sales sans sales tax total to $593
The 1099k for 2021 for me did not include sales tax. Looking to tell them what to expect, thanks.

No (does not include sales tax)
But when they 'ask' for the SS info, you could VERY WELL BE below the $600 mark but for all they know, you could be heading there and they don't wait until you've 'surpassed' that number to then 'try' to get the required info. The 1099 won't get issued if under $600 though (but that DOES include shipping $ collected and does include any money collected, even if refunded later)
They basically ask for it when someone 'first' starts selling (but can take some time as it's a system with 1,000,000's of new sellers & listings to deal with on a daily basis)

That's what I thought, thanks. Wanted to confer with the forums here to make sure nothing had changed.
