I can't come up with a college name for you, but IMHO it is HMC or MHC, where the "C" stands for college.  1909 is the graduation year, and E C is the graduate's initials.

t's not Harvey Mudd College...started in 1955...

I hadn't thought about it being from a college.  I was leaning more toward a church but that is why I was hoping to get some ideas from others.  Thank you for your assistance.  I keep trying to research.

No clue if this applies, but I thought of Mount Holyoke College which was founded pre-1900s if my memory is correct.
