Help with vintage gold ring, unknown mark and stone

The marking on the inside band has an "A" or a triangle and then a star. I am not sure if anyone can tell the stone type from my picture or not...any help is appreciated.

sapphire and garnet both come in theatbright orange color.  And can be donein lab as well as natural. Would have to get it tested to know for sure what it was imho

Could it  be the Allsopp Brothers' mark? Their mark was an A with a star. According to Rainwater's "American Jewelry Manufacturers" (p. 24)  they were still in business in 1931, but I can't find any info re when they closed their doors.
