Outside of the Kirby my mother bought in the early 1960's (and it lasted into the early 80's), I'd vote for Dyson.  I have two.  They do a good job and are durable.  Nothing else I've had has lasted.

Catch them on sale because prices vary a lot, and you can find a good deal.

definately a Kirby!! (Kirby G7 Ultimate Diamond Edition is probably the best Kirby made yet, because of it's design & the G7 was the last model produced before Kirby started using more plastic parts)...but really all in all, all Kirby's are good vacuum cleaners!

My Dyson was not working well after 5 years. I called Dyson for help. I took it to the repair shop and Dyson paid for the whole thing. My Dyson lasted for another 5 years. I would say its the best when it came to customer service.
