Crochet or knit?

I'd like to list this dress that I've had since the 70s.  It has no tags that  might help and having looked at a zillion crochet and knit pattern images, the closest I have come is this Clove Knot Knit picture, (mine on left....clove knit on the right)

For those who know, do you think that's right or is it booble crochet?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Crochet or knit?

I'd call it knit.
For one thing, my guess is it's machine-made, as opposed to handmade.
Crochet has not been mechanized, while knitting has.

Some garment retailers and brand names continue to refer to any open-work knit as "crochet" because either
(1) they don't know any better, or (2) their customers don't know any better and they don't want to lose buyers.

Re: Crochet or knit?

From the way the dress is constructed, It definitely isn't handmade.

If it were, it would have  been a fastidiously  done  high priced piece....nothing I would

ever own. LOL

Therefore, it kinda follows, doesn't it?

Thanks

Re: Crochet or knit?

Ah...one more question. What type of yarn do you think is most likely for that knit and vintage, being it was machine made..

I remember my mom seemed to mostly use Orlon but that was by hand.
