Apsara are the dancing figures, often with a headdress. A female spirit of the clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist culture. These are used as decoration of temples and house shrines, but since the sandstone is easy to carve, they are also made for tourists. A piece like this may have even been the work of an apprentice.
