Hi, can anyone identify origin of these hand painted enamel and lacquer wood lidded boxes? Each are painted with same characters and decoration. I am not sure if it is Asian, or perhaps Middle Eastern. There are what appears to be monkeys and figures on horseback. There is no signature marks or text on them. They measure 4 1/2" tall and 3" in diameter. Thanks in advance for any help.

You might look under Burma/Thailand/betel boxes as a starting point. Yours appears somewhat recent.

This is one of them. The inner sleeve is also painted in similar fashion.

Yes, the British Museum is well known for their *bleeping* up a blue streak! I think the OP did a workaround as I got credited with a solve!
