Spanish 8 reale cob coin from grandfather's collection.  Is this authentic?  Any thoughts?  Haven't seen one quite like this online.1.5"  x  1.1"1.5" x 1.1"0-6.jpg

if it is real, it's been cut down and shaped...

 

i don't have much experience with cobs, but it looks suspect to me... it should be examined in person... if there's a semi-major coin show in your area, you should be able to find someone with the experience to know at the show...

Excellent photos.  This Heron agrees with Mr. Smedley. Try to find a specialist that is familiar with these old Spanish items.

Original actual spanish cob coins will be consistent in weight within a very tight tolerance. See if you can find a place (large jeweler or gold buyer) with an XRF machine and ask if they will check the composition of the metal for you, should be 93-96% silver.

I agree. 

It is not genuine. The design is not correct.

A weight will help you understand. The date is in the wrong place, the castles and lions are not right and the lettering under the large "8" is incorrect.
