Item Specifics Recommendations - Not applicable

I have several listings with item specific recommendations.  Like an Oneida stainless steel knife that it wants the color to be Pink rather than silver.  And then a sweatshirt listing that is a Hanes Activewear and they want the maker to be Sz.  What gives?  What happens when you fill it out with something else but they keep recommending something is this TOTALLY WRONG!
