Found this on a old farm and cannot figure out what it was used for. It's about 25" long. Any ideas?

Good morning,
This device is called a "SINGLE TREE" and is used to hook a horse/mule to a horse drawn piece of farm equipment via chains from the harness to the implement.

It's definitely a single tree, and now that farmers seldom use mules to plow with, it is used to hang a hog or a deer by it's rear legs. The hooks on each end connect to the tendons in each rear leg, while the hog or deer is dressed out. Another example of back woods ingenuity.

Yup single tree. I agree. Good luck.
