High unusual wooden prim with metal straps...age or use would be helpful.

This  hand hewn 27" tall object is a sheer mystery. It is 5.5" tall. It is made of four boards. The top is cut on a bias. Two boards run the 27" length and the other two run 18.5"....thus creating a "tunnel". The piece is free-standing, even on carpet. There are two iron straps around it  as well as square head nail in the construction. Any guesses?

From what little I can tell, it appears to be sitting on four legs..are they made of wood ?

All wood. No, not 4 legs. Two boards run 27". The bottoms of those boards are the "legs". The four chamfered boards are banded together. There is a hollow that drops down about 80% and is sealed at the bottom.
