The pictures are almost too small to tell anything from, but I think I have an idea what you have. On vintage 1950s-1960s pieces like this, Cartier typically put their name on slightly modified models that were produced by other manufacturers. One of the manufacturers they used was swiss Jaeger-LeCoultre (JLC) and their U.S. division, LeCoultre. JLC/LeCoultre produced a line of pocket alarms beginning in the 1950s that were based upon their famous Memovox Wrist Alarm. Your thumbnail picture looks suspiciously like a 1950s-1960s JLC Pocket Alarm. The alarms were made in a variety of case styles and with/without date function.

The JLC Pocket Alarms come up on eBay frequently and typically sell for $350-500 depending on condition. The Cartier name will likely bring a little more money.

Below are a few pictures showing the connection between Cartier and Jaeger-LeCoultre. Hope this helps!

Greg

1) A 1951 ad showing a Cartier Futurematic manufactured by JLC.

2) An (ultra-rare) late 1940s JLC Duoplan watch sold through Cartier (case is solid platinum and loaded with diamonds. Being restored and no pictures yet)

3) The back of the duoplan movement above showing the standard Cartier signature "E.W. & C. Co." for European Watch & Clock Company

4) A JLC Pocket Alarm that looks very much like your Cartier. There were many models and case styles of these Pocket Alarms made by JLC.

Thank you Greg for that information. I have fixed my picture problems- here are better photos. What kind of finish is the front with that crackle type? Any ideas?

The new, larger photos halp a lot. This isn't one of the Pocket Alarm models that I though it was. It looks a lot like one of the larger alarm models called a "Travelette", again produced for Cartier by LeCoultre. These were produced in a number of case styles and variations during the 1950s. The case finishes were usually some combination of gilt and enamel.

You're unlikely to find much info on these clocks other than what might be published in a vintage magazine ad somewhere. Almost none of the old LeCoultre/Cartier production info survives and I've never seen anything significant on these models in any collector book.

Thank you so very much Greg- how wonderful to have so much expertise in this area. Is it worth the $ to try ebay to sell it or what would you do?

Certainly, its worth the time to list it on eBay. The LeCoultre versions bring $150-$300 depending on condition. The Cartier name + the original box may drive the price a little higher on your clock. Good luck!
