Calling all members, tell me what this is, what grade it is and what you'd be willing to pay for it or what you'd sell it for.

Please, address your response to "David*"

I forgot to add:

Do you think this stamp is collectable or just a space filler.

Scott R-120, my catalogue too old for valid price.

Space filler until better copy comes around. Start at $1 on eBay?

All stamps are collectable to someone. Maybe for the date? Some collect off-center perfs, etc, etc.

Thanks for responding.

My thoughts about this stamp is as follows:

My 2016 Scott Cat. gives the price at $450.00, not bad since I recently bought the stamp in question for $5.00, it was in a dealers junk box at a stamp show, as soon as I saw it I knew what it was.  I had been looking for a long time for this stamp variety.

True enough this stamp is way off center, but I've done some little bit of research, as far as I can find, all examples of this stamp variety is found off center.  If all examples are off center, then I'd suggest is not a mere space filler.  By the way, this stamp is completely sound.

This is R120 with a Foreign Design Transfer from the R118 the R1.00 parent stamp.  The best pick up points (there are others if you know what exactly to look for) see the "&" sign.

Again this is only my thoughts, if you are to become a stamp collector instead of just someone interested in stamps, you need to study all varieties so you can spot varieties, in this case an interesting error.  A lot of people look, but do not see.  Again just my thinking not pointed at any one!

My 1993 catalogue lists it at $10.00. LOL

SO, if most are way off center and Scott's catalogue is for very fine[?}, the $450 must be for a pretty nicely centered copy. Maybe you got your $5.00s worth. ); >) unless you collect varieties. I have suggested never trash stamps because one individuals perception and knowledge doesn;t make it owrthless. In fact it could be very valuable to a specialist.

It's a keeper.

Here is a page with very rare canceler on throw away stamps!

A catalog price is only the roughest of guides to what you should expect to pay for a decently-centered, sound copy in a retail stamp shop.

The real world exacts a different, and more realistic value.  Below is a link to a list of revenue stamps like yours that recently sold on eBay.  As you can see even excellent-looking copies don't sell for a whole lot, certainly nowhere near $450.  My guess is that on eBay there's a 50-50 chance of getting what you paid for the stamp.  But compare for yourself--

i stand corrected...yours is indeed the "foreign entry" R-120.

Since they are very scarce, I would definitely say hang onto it and display it proudly in your collection.

I am impressed with your diligence in ferreting out the difference between the R120 and the "foreign entry" type.  Nice find!!

This is the second example of this error I've found and paid very little for both.

Example that if a person knows what he is looking for can find!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE STAMP, THIS IS A  R120, TAKEN FROM A STAMP AUCTION ON EBAY, I CAN'T SEE ANY THING DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS STAMP AND THE ONE YOU SHOW, WHAT MAKES IT A, Foreign entry, design of $1--. I LOOKED AT A FEW STAMPS ON

Sorry you can not tell the difference.

Suggest you carefully look and see my orignal scanned image.

Then reread my posting dated 08-21-2016 at 0101PM Hours, 5th para.

If I could draw good, I'd provide a line drawing, line drawing of plate varieties are far superior to photos in catalogs or even scanned images, but I simply can not draw very good.

Thanks for providing an example of what I said, (people interested in stamps a lot of time "look" but do not "see").

Also, read but do not learn.

Its my belief that the internet is good and bad for Stamp Collectors in many ways.

If you still can not see the difference, I will post another image, but only with the major pick up point.
