New Java, new pop-up message when printing a label. :(

After finally fixing the last Java pop-up that bothered so many of us, there is now a new version of Java that presents a similar message with a different look when printing a shipping label. Unfortunately, the old java.policy edit trick does not work to alleviate this annoyance. This new version has been out for a month and I've searched every day for a fix to no avail.

For those of you who have the privelege of not knowing what I'm referring to: When printing a label in eBay, at the print screen, Java throws up a pop-up asking you to block or unblock unsigned code to allow the label to print. No matter how many times you've clicked unblock, it will still ask every **bleep** time. This was an old issue back in the day and there was a fix for it. But now there's a new version and it does it again and the existing fix doesn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is this message coming from Java of Firefox?

Are you running the latest version of Firefox?

I am running W7 Pro, Firefox 22, Java 7 U25 with no problem, but I do remember changing a setting in Firefox do to a popup problem a couple of months ago when Java was a security issue.  I'll have to look for it.

Ok, it was a setting change in the Java Console, but still looking to see what it was.

Try this:

Open the Java Console, click on the Advanced Tab, go down to:

Mixed code (Sandboxed Vs. trusted) security verification option under the Security section.

The default option is:

Enable - show warning if needed

Change this to the next option:

Enable - hide warning and run with protections

So, a new Java update was released today and now I'm back to the same problem and the fix noted in this thread does not seem to have any effect.. I've tried some trial and error with the settings and nothing seems to work.

So is this the exact same problem as before?

Does it also happen if you use PayPal shipping instead of eBay shipping?

What kind of printer are you using?

It happens in both eBay and PayPal shipping. I am using a Dymo LabelWriter 450 Turbo. I also tried to use an older version of Java, but as soon as I print a label, I am presented with a pop-up that states an update is available. I have the option to upgrade, block, or remind when the next update comes out. Doing anything but upgrade disables the printing functionality entirely.

I don't recall what the previous security warning looked like, but this one is as follows:

Security Warning

Re: New Java, new pop-up message when printing a label. :(

in reply to emvee-electronics

For a thermal printer used with PayPal a Java print window is used, but for eBay an Adobe print window should open, however it opens from a Java applet.  I am assuming you don't get that far.

If you have the latest update to W7 and FF, next open the control panel and check that no previous versions of the Java Runtime exist.  Also when you updated Java did you do it from the downloaded install?  If not, redo it, do not use the online install.

If you already applied the previous fix in this thread, double check it is still set correctly.

Also related is the printer permission popup, which you haven't mentioned your getting.  Did you install the fix for that?  If not do so as follows:

Right click WordPad (Start>All Programs>Accessories) click Run As Administrator.

In WordPad click Open and navigate to the java.policy file as follows (***is the version number):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre***\lib\security

Open the java.policy file, make a backup copy first if you like.

Insert this line in the list of Permissions at the end just before the last };.

permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "queuePrintJob";

};

Save the file and you’re done.  If at some time in the future this file is updated, you will again have to edit it.

Hope some of this helps, otherwise we will have to look further.  I also have a Dymo 450, W7, and FF, but have no problems, and haven't seen any other posts about it.  So something on your computer is likely the culprit.

Re: New Java, new pop-up message when printing a label. :(

in reply to rfmtm

Thank you for your continued assistance. I first installed the offline version. Since then, I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times with the online version, older versions, the new version after fully removing, etc.

It may be worth noting that I have only the 32 bit version of Java. My version of W7 is 64-bit, but since FF is 32 bit, I use the 32 bit version of Java.

There is no other version found in the control panel. When uninstalling completely and reinstalling, the settings still stick. It looks like they are stored in the registry.

I find it odd how this happens only to me especially when it happens on 2 different computers.

In the past, I have done what you noted for the printer permission with editing the policy. That works without a problem, thankfully.

I am in the same boat as emvee-electronics and there is very little info out there on this problem... when you are printing a ton of labels a day it real is a big problem. Please post any ideas or fixes if you happen to find one to this board. I am sure others will be looking for help at some point.

I have noticed the web address changes each time also: https://ibdswebp8-ext.pb.com may next time be https://ibdswebp38-ext.pb.com.

Also having the same issue over on Amazon...

When I run the console it reports this:

Means little to me but maybe someone that really knows the system maybe able to find a fix with the above info.

Thank you!!

Re: New Java, new pop-up message when printing a label. :(

in reply to emvee-electronics

At this point I think I would try another browser, just to narrow down where the problem is.  I'd try both IE and Chrome.  Should be able to just try reprinting a label to see if that works.

I also have a W7-64 running the 32bit FF so that's not the issue.

I see we have another poster with this issue, but really need others to start to see what everybody has in common.

Re: New Java, new pop-up message when printing a label. :(

in reply to rfmtm

I too have the exact same issue

Have 2 computers, both windows 7 64 bit

In the past, when Java updated, I would get the popup to stop by adding the Permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "queuePrintJob"; and it would stop the pop up. With this update, it does not stop the update. Also changed the security settings for Sandbox, etc, Nothing works.

Yesterday Java updated to JRE7 update 45

and when you go to print you get the message

Security Warning

Allow access to the following application from this web site?

Web site: https://ibdswebp8-ext.pb.com

Application: UNKNOWN

Publisher: Pitney Bowes

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, tried FF, IE, Google, all with the same issue

I print with Brothers QL-500.

I read in Java help that with this update, they have changed this particular pop up.

Any help to get this from stop popping up would be of great help

We print a lot of labels, and the extra step gets annoying.

Re: New Java, new pop-up message when printing a label. :(

in reply to nlcycle

Ok, now we are getting somewhere, as it looks like others are having the same problem and it appears not to be the OS or the browser, but the updated Java Runtime itself.  Will see what I can find out.

Would be interesting if others have this problem with other than eBay/PayPal, as much of their code is old and patched as many Java updates seem to cause some type of problem over the years.

Where here it is, another snafu from Java.  While there is suppose to be a way around this for developers, it doesn't work.  Besides eBay/PayPal would take for ever to implement it anyway.  Nothing really for us users to do until this gets straighten out.

Good find! That's the exact error format I am receiving. It's odd how only a handful of us are getting it though? Would this apply to everyone who prints labels through eBay?

I am sure many more are having the issue and just living with it...

For years whenever there is a Java update I decline the update for this reason as I knew I would have to mod the java policy again but as we know we had to update to get the labels to print this time. I cant help but think that they went out of their way to prevent us from bypass the warning and wonder if the label side is bypassing paying Java in someway.

Actually this problem is affecting any application using the LiveConnect Java function.  This in a way is good news, as the more people upset and complaining, the better chance of a fix.  Hopefully that fix will be only needed at the Java Runtime level, as we all know eBay/PP would take forever if they have to make a change.
