eBay Purge?

People on these boards keep referencing an eBay purge that happened lately.  It's not just on the seller's board but everywhere else too but the most recent one I saw was here.

Did eBay so a mass deletion of listings or something?  I'm a bit confused...

Are you sure it isn't about the board outage that cause a bunch of posts to disappear?

Which thread did you see it in here?

The purge probably references the sudden suspension of up to 15,000 sellers

They are referring to the purge of August 6, 2013 in which 15,000 sellers were blocked from listing, many suspended and outright banned. There's a wealth of info on this event just go to any search engine and type in ebay 15,000 purge and it will pull up numerous articles about it.

Gotcha! I knew about that one, but for some reason people are discussing it again a lot on the seller forum and a couple of the category specific ones.

I would really like to know why they did all this???  It has really messed me up as a seller!!  They said they lowered how much I can sell down to 8 items a week or $150 worth, becuase, get this, in the last year I had a whopping 4 buyers who left less than 5 stars for "item not as described".  Doesnt matter that I have been a member for 15 years and have always had a 100% feedback rating!  I just don;t get this at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They don't give a rat's patootie what your history is here but to penalize you for quite possibly could've been 4's is insane! Is that really what it said - "less than 5's", not 1's or 2's?

I assume it's not on this ID. How many actual transactions did you have over that 12 months?

Humane,

Max is right. They want you to go away.  DON'T

No venue will give you sales and views like ebay.

Here is what I did after my selling limits were cut in half.

1. Set up a new email address

2. Set up a new selling ID on ebay

     1. When pay pal ask for information give them new C/C info, but same bank account.

     2. On your about me page state love selling and buying on ebay since ______ blah blah blah

3. In your new selling ID do the below:

    1. One day handling time

    2. Ship prepaid

    3. Excellent photos and description

    4. Do not communicate with buyers via email unless you have to.

    5. Do not ship international.

    6. Set your buying blocks

    7. Go to your established ID pull and copy your BBL's plug them into your new ID

In other words give yourself a new start. I did and am amazed how many more views I am receiving.

No kidding TRIPLE the views of my established ID

Also note the new ID DOES NOT count toward your selling limits on your established ID.

Hope this helps you. We are lucky and can still sell. Take advantage of that and start a new selling ID

and keep your established one open.

Max is right, they want the small sellers gone, all while they encourage new sellers.

Old smaller sellers are wise, and know how to use Ebay and not waste fees on usless upgrades. They also know that you don't trust what ebay or paypal says, when you call CS

Ebay is not stupid, they know that restricted or suspended accounts will most likely open new accounts making it look like there are more sellers than there really is.  That's why they don't close down accounts (saying they will allow you to continue to purchase)

All this adds up to looking like there are a whole lot more registered users than there really is !

It's a dumping process, eventually ebay will be rid of the mom&pop seller, just trying to make it look like the mom & pops just went away on their own.

More a tighter restrictions that big box retailers don't have to live up to, just make it harder for the mom&pops to survive !

And that is what ebay wants, no mom& pops just big box retailers, JD warned everyone that's what he was planning !

Seems like it is time for us all to establish an alternate selling ID on eBay, whether we have been purged or not. Thanks for creating a plan others can follow. I have a couple of questions about your suggestions:

(1) By "prepaid" do you mean "Free Shipping"?

(2) Why would you restrict International Shipping? I guess it can be slightly more risky but International sales do not count toward shipping & handling times or shipping costs to my knowledge.

(3) In your 7th suggestion you state "copy your BBL's plug them into new ID. BBL's I suppose refer to listings?? But you can't copy pictures, you basically have to recreate all new listings don't you?

Thats where turbolister is great, you should be able to sync all your listings from one account to TL, then copy them to the "inventory" section, export them, then load your other account in to TL, import the items, and list.

Its a little more complicated than that, but thats the general idea. Its been a while since I moved stuff between accounts with it

Just make sure you change The Email address to the new one, before you list on the new Selling ID
