How To Prevent International Sales

Don't want the hassle with Customs Forms, slow shipping complaints & hits on your Shipping Time DSR's, INR (Item Not Recieved) because there's no DC (Delivery Confirmation) on the shipping method the buyer insists you use or SNAD (Significantly Not As Described) and buyer won't return due to cost of S&H that you had to pay to get it there & you lost money on? There are 3 steps:

1. At Home Page after signing in wave your cursor over the Account tab & click on Site Preferences in the drop down menu.
Find Shipping preferences & click on Show at the end of the row.
Find Exclude shipping locations from your listings & click on Edit
Put a check mark on all options including North America as NA does not include US.

Put check mark in Apply to all current live listings & click on Apply.

2. Find Buyer requirements on the same page & click on Show then Edit.
Put a check mark in the box under Buyers in locations to which I don't ship.
Put a check mark in the box in front of Apply above settings to active and future listings.
If you truly do not want to be bothered with requests to ship internationally put a check mark in the box at the bottom of the page next to Don't allow blocked buyers to contact me.

Click on Submit.

3. Log into your PayPal account & click on Profile in the sub-menu bar at the top of the page.
Under Selling Preferences click on Payment Receiving Preferences.
Put a check on Yes under Block payments sent to me in a currency I do not hold:

Scroll to the bottom of the page & click on Save.

Needless to say, as you're in these areas & have other options that are available, you should adjust your settings for your comfort level. Hope this helps!

OKayyyyy! Try this one!

Buyer left: NEVER RECIEVED ITEM! BAD COMMUNICATION! LIAR AND IS NOT RECOMENDED! - - - - -

Seller responded....REFUSED TO PAY UK CUSTOM FEE! LIED ABOUT ALL ! JUST A THIEF ! BLOCK THIS "BUYER"

Buyer responded.......IM PAY FOR POSTAGE £22 AND PLUS I NEED TO PAY £220 FOR FEE??!!! GOOD JOKE???

Item at auction, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=370475082259&si=DNQfomjdAPi%252BnYPSUmD5set21a4%253D&viewitem= .... Yup! £220 is just about right for import duties to the UK for 1500 hundred US in gold coins! BBL international sellers!

That seller could probably get the feedback removed because the buyer admitted not paying customs fees in the reply, right?

That is correct....

"We will remove Feedback if the listing meets the requirements below and the seller receives a negative or neutral Feedback comment that refers to customs delays or customs fees"

The rest of the policy reads:

"Requirements

The following text, or very similar text, must be included in the listing. You can cut and paste this directly into your listing:

International Buyers – Please Note:

Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.

Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying.

This text must also be:

Free standing or apart from other text in the item description

In a font size no smaller than the majority of the other text in the item description

Prominently displayed in the upper half of the item description

You might also want to include the following information for potential buyers:

Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick the item up. These fees are not additional shipping charges.

We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws."

Unfortunetly none of the above is in the sellers listing. Catch 22!

I see, I didn't know who you were talking about so I couldn't see if they had that in their listings.

I love my Canadian buyers. I ship worldwide but most of my international buyers are in Canada. For those who are nervous about customs forms or don't want to have to wait in line at the PO for purchasing First Class International (FCI) postage, stamps.com has a FREE eBay program that allows you to print FCI and the customs info prints out on the shipping label. You just fill in the address, package weight and size, choose FCI, and then fill out the customs form with the type of shipment (it would be merchandise for eBay stuff), and then type in what you are shipping. For example if I was shipping a dress to Canada, I would select a quantity of '1', type in 'Dress', and then type in the delared value, which would be the amount of the winning bid. That's it! So easy and you just tape the whole label on the package and drop it in a blue box, no waiting 🙂

Sorry to bump an older thread (well I guess that's relative!), but I had a question for stef- when you say free eBay program on stamps.com, does that mean a program where you don't have to pay for the monthly fee? My guess is no, since stamps.com encourages three different types of payment plans, and there are no "free" plans besides the free trial.

I signed up for the "Free" 4 week trial, but I don't think I would want to pay monthly for stamps.com access as I don't have high volume mailings. I was excited to try the First Class International print-your-own label thing, but my current attempt got bungled (the stamps.com software crashed mid-print) and from what I've read, I can't do a reprint of the label (they say once you log out, you can't reprint a label).

Grrr, guess that means it's back to waiting in line at the Post Office for international shipments.

Hi SPF!

Call stamps.com customer service 1-888-434-0055 and request the free eBay program. It is not available online. I'm sorry I did not mention that!

What? Wow, thanks for the reply Chuck. I didn't expect a reply from a stamps.com rep.

Well, I do have a question- I sell through eBay, but I do NOT have an eBay store. I sell at a low volume, so it is not economically optimal for me to have a store. So, does that mean I do not qualify for the free stamps.com eBay version?

I may still call the number stefs_threads mentioned because the link you posted just directs me to sign up for stamps.com, which I already have.

Hi!

You will still be able to use the free eBay program for orders sold on eBay even if you do not have an eBay store. Please keep in mind that the free version only waives subscription fees; you will need to pay for postage.

Given that you have already signed up, I would recommend calling.

Thanks!

How To Prevent International Sales

This needed a and this was just posted at the Feedie board, http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b221/MavicaMedic/01%202020%20Forum/Great%20GIFs/3D3Dbump2.gif :

"Last year I sold an item and made exception to honor an international buyer's bid. They resided in Brazil, and upon payment, I shipped item via USPS. In the 3 weeks it sat in customs, buyer filed an item not received claim and was given full refund back out of my paypal account. Upon clearing customs, buyer refused delivery. I am now out of the full amount of the item, shipping, eBay fees and to put a cherry on top, was left the negative feedback of "bad seller". Nothing more.

I was so put off by this issue, I chose to cease using eBay and after calling in today to try and get some resolution, I was transferred to the Philippines and placed on hold for 47 minutes. Shortly after I was hung up on and had to begin the process all over again. I was told by another supervisor this is a policy issue and there is nothing I can do.

I feel I upheld every duty as a seller by communicating the shipping of the item and provided full tracking information for seller. The fact that eBay/Paypal has the ability to deduct my Paypal account automatically after an item not received claim AFTER I provided full proof the item was sitting in customs and later was attempted to be delivered is disturbing to say the least.

I don't expect any resolution at this point, but due to the economy, I have to supplement my income once again from selling some more items. This incident has left a more than sour taste in my mouth and being out a total of $200+ in addition the item itself would warrant a criminal complaint in most situations."

Oh, and again, refrencing paragraph two, eBay Customer Service is an oxymoron.

And folks wonder why more of us don't sell outside the CONUS? Canada sellers, maybe. Since it's supposed to be so cheap up there to ship here, why do you suppose I was about to bid on an item I wanted that was $5.00 but the shipping to get it here to the U.S. was over $20.00. Ain't happening.
