I have a couple of negatives showing a police officer from Belmar New Jersey on a Harley Motorcycle and was hoping someone could give me some more information about the Harley, like model and year. Thanks in advance.

This is a 1926 JD model A twin. The v twin motor was about 500 cc in size. Harley made about 7000 machine and they sold for $210 Base price. Although the police version was a little more money.
Are these photos original? enjoy

I was thinking it was a 1928 JDL model. Not totally certain on that

I really can't tell you for sure since the bikes look a lot alike.
Serial numbers were pretty much unreliable back then, but maybe
if you contact the Harley Davidson company with a copy of the photos
you have they might be able to give you an idea of what year it is.
Have you thought of having a photography expert looking at the negative?
I know some can tell you around what year it was taken by the type of material
the negative is made from and the exposure method used for the negative.
I am including a 1926 JDL Police bike with this so you can see how identical the
bikes are. I also have a friend who owns a Harley dealership and has a collection
of vitage Harley Davidson bikes who I am going to show your photos to to see
what he thinks it is. I will get back to you on that if you want me to.

I am told this 1926 bike has the front end off of a 1928 JDL Police model, but thought I would
send you a second picture of it all the same so you can see how close the bikes are to each other.

Here is a 1926 with the proper front tire and rim
as you can see there is not a front brake set up
on it.
The 1926 did not have a front brake, but a lot of
people added the front tires and rims from 1927
and 1928 bikes which had the brake assembly.

I would have to say you were told the correct year by Harleybrad.
My friend with the vitage collection said the same thing the minute
he seen your photo that it was a 1926.
The last photo I posted to you is his 1926 with the correct front end
on on it.
Great photo negative you have!!!!!
