Hello
Plan to purchase fine jewlery on ebay from seller in Japan. The item is $1,650
The seller posted: Price EXCLUDE tax, custom, duty fee
Wonder how the custom/Duty/Tax transaction get in US...??? is it lot of work?? and how much is US custom charge? %??
thanks
If the item is sent by mail, your post office will collect the duty when you pick up the package. You will not have to fill out forms unless the item is valued more than $2000.
The duty on jewelry may be around 5%

U.S. Customs and Border Protection
There are three ways goods can be sent to you from abroad. In order to avoid costly problems, you and the seller of your goods should agree on which will be used the international postal service, a courier service, or freight carriers.
If any duty is owed, CBP will charge a processing fee for clearing your package. Duty and the processing fee are usually paid at your local post office, where your package is forwarded.
The duty rate for many items typically bought in an on-line auction is zero, however, CBP may charge a small processing fee for mail imports that do require the payment of duty.
You will not be charged any customs/duties/etc unless the item is more than $200.00
You can go to the US Customs web site and root around there to find what, if any, duty there is on your item.
