Best Offer

I have made an offer on an item 2 days ago and the seller has not responded at this point and there is 2 hours left on my offer.  Is this normal?  Seems rude to me not to respond.  What do I do?  Because of this, I have now missed purchasing the item from someone else due to the no response.  I should add, the item that popped up was a buy it now and now it is gone.  Didn't want two of the same item, especially with how much they cost.  Just feel you shouldn't do a buy it now if you are going to ignore it.
