Pauline - about your Elzac face brooch ...

I looked it up in a book I have "The Jewelry Face Book of Pins and Pendants by Kathy Flood. didn't see exactly yours, but one very similar - that one is green ceramic with orange lucite backpiece, page 13. What she says is  that the more abstract designs elzac procuded, such as that one, were created by design engineer Elliot Handler, and she dates it to 1940's. If you send me your email I can take a quick photo of the page with my iphone and send to you.

Hi Diane,

This is the pic I put in my listing:

I would LOVE to get the prices quoted here 🙂 but these don't seem to do as well as the more "tribal" looking faces 😞

Elliot Handlerwas truly amazing, I was reading he was co-founder of Mattel and he designed Barbie!

Pauline that was an interesting tidbit about Elliot Handler designing Barbie.

Check out this recently sold Elzac piece.

I have some pins very similar to those.  (The ones that look like Barbie)  Can  you tell me more about them?  Thank you!  Lisa

Here's some more related info, attributed to Kathy Flood: http://www.antiquetrader.com/antiques/collectibles/ten_things_elliot_handler_hot_wheels_mattel .

What's not clear to me (hence the reason I was researching just now), is whether Elliot Handler actually was the designer of Barbie in addition to being involved  with her development as the co-founder of Mattel. In any case, a very interesting connection.

And for those really interested, details of his life and related stuff on Mattel's Timeline: http://corporate.mattel.com/about-us/history/default.aspx
