In the process of trying to move my Amazon.com book inventory to ebay, I signed up for File Exchange. I've finally opened a (primitive) ebay store, and thought I had it all figured out. Mapped the pertinent information from my open listings report into the File Exchange format, filled out what needed to be filled out, and uploaded a test file. Worked beautifully. Tried with a much larger sample file - big mistake. As it turns out, many of the titles, in the form provided by Amazon.com, with the author listed etc., are more than 55 characters. I am NOT going to individually edit each of these 1000+ plus entried. Is there any way to simply have the Title column truncate text to 55 characters for each entry? Thanks much for any assistance!
One way to truncate would be to copy the column data to another file..save the file as a text file, then open and reimport the file using "fixed width" option, and cut the column at the 55 mark. Then copy and paste the column back into your spreadsheet.
1. Insert a new column to the right of the column with too many characters.
2. Select the column you wish to truncate.
4. Text to columns>
5. Fixed width>
6. Click 55> then finish.
7. This moves extra text to the new column you created.
8. Delete this extra column
