St. Louis Silver Co. Oak Stein?

I recently aquired this piece I think may be a stein without a handle.  It is oak with brass inlay and has a separate lid. The bottom is marked St. Louis Silver Co. who made similar steins with handles in the early 1900's. I don't really know much about steins and have not been able to find another. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps it's a tea caddy?

Why are there two identical threads on this object?

Anyhow, I think *redpix* nailed it on the duplicate thread.
