--THE NEW COIN CHAT ROOM--

Hate the discussion board format? Wish there was a place to have a running chat like in the old ebay chat rooms that they took away?

Here is the solution, one thread devoted to chatting about anything and everything about coins all in the same place.

Post whatever is on your mind. There is no official topic here. So let's get the chatting started.

Truth In Advertising:  Many times we read on this chatting bjord regarding

advertisements that are not completely truthful.  However, recently whilst

Heron was perusing a nationally known newspaper, an advertisement was

noticed for being truthful.  The seller was offering $20 USA gold coins for

$1,295 each.  In large font was this statement; "ALMOST A FULL OZ. OF

PURE GOLD!" [Their punctuation, not Heron's].  Heron thought that to see

such a statement was very good in today's modern woild of make believe.

SECOND ITEM:

The Wall Street Journal 10 June 2015 Page A11:

Headline; "New Belgian Coin Sidesteps France".

This article is about a coin issue commemorating the battle of Waterloo

where Nappy was defeated on 18 June 1815.

The French govt. was not happy about this coin being issued.

As a 'work around' for the rules of the Euro, the Belgians designed this coin

as a 2.5 Euro.  Apparently this particular denomination is not controlled by

the Euro pact.  However, it will be legal tender within Belgium only. This coin

could be an interesting item to add to a coin collection consisting of 'modern

coins'.  Regardvs,

Re: --THE NEW COIN CHAT ROOM--

Re Heron's post of 30 March 2015 - 1031 hrs:  Yes, the old Heron does remember some stuff.

This is a followup on Heron's post re 'Six Banks will take part in New Gold Fix'.

In Heron's post of 30 March 2015 there was this comment, "Because the 6th bank is to be

named later".

Here is 'The Rest Of The Story':

Article in Wall Street Journal of 17 Junio 2015, Page C-3 writ by Ese Erheriene.

The 6th bank to join the gold price fixing 'grupo' is a Chinese Bank.  Those of us that collect

Chinese paper money will recognize a name from the Republic era.  The 6th bank is

the Chinese government owned Bank of China, Ltd.

This addition makes a lot of sense.  Now the grupo can gather for el lonche at a Chinese

Restaurante rather than the same old places that serve Beef Wellington or Kidney Pie.

As for Chinese Restaurantes in London, there is a dandy one located at the southern end

of Finchley Road in the NW section of London.  Genuine and tasty Cantonese cuisine.

This cuisine info obtained by personal experience.

Now we know the 6 gold price 'fixers'.  Heron hopes this informacion is helpful.  Regards,

xx

Comentarios re newspaper coin advertisements continued:

An advertisement currently being printed in a nationally known newspaper is

offering a 5 Ounce USA 'coin' for $99.95.   This coin has a vignette of an

American turkey in flight.  Old Ben Franklin must be smiling.

This advertisement does NOT mention the cost of shipping.  Probably

an arm or leg?

Stuff that coin collectors notice!

Re: --THE NEW COIN CHAT ROOM--

Heron has been reviewing several selling places on this great venue..

Primarily to find 'new' different Ching Dynasty Cash mint marks.

However, during these searches, Heron has discovered some odd auctions

and 'titles' for China Cash coins:

Coin listed as Kiangsi Prov. but has the distinctive Chekiang Prov. mint mark.

Cash coin of Emp. Kang Hsi advertised as 'unusual mint mark'.  The mint

mark on this particular coin is not overly unusual, it is shown upside down.

Being upside down it does resemble something unusual. However, if we

stand on our heads and review the mint mark it shows as the usual and

not scarce Lin-Ching mint mark of Shantung Province.

A Hunan coin being offered for sale as a Honan.  These are 2 different

Chinese Provinces. [As shown on map in KM Catalog of Woild Coins].

A 10 Cash coin listed as Kiang-nam.  There is a Chinese Province of Kiang-

Nan but not one listed for Kiang-nam.  Heron has not seen a Kiang-nam.

[The coin clearly shows Kiang-Nan in English].

Half dozen China Ching Dynasty coins listed under Annam as coins of Annam.

Hu-Poo is NOT a Province.  A seller apparently believes it is...!

Clearly some of these sellers could be helped. However, Heron constantly

remembers the old 'adage' "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished".  So, Heron

will not get involved, although he would like to help the sellers.

Just a few of the 'listings' Heron has seen recently during his searches.

Kind of humorous in a way, although the buyers might not think so when they

discover the errors.  On the other hant, buyers SHOULD KNOW about these

items prior to bidding.  OPINION.  Regardos,

Holas Paper Money collecting Amigos:  The following article could be of interest:

Article in WSJ 3 Dec 2015 Page B4.  Article Writ by Simon Zekeria.

establishments De La Rue will reduce production of banknotes.

De La Rue will now concentrate on production of identity products such as;

digital passaportes and driving licenses.

Footnote: De La Rue company started as a newspaper printer on the Island of

Re: --THE NEW COIN CHAT ROOM--

From time to time we see comentarios regarding the 'weak' USA Dollar.  Currently this

is not true.  At this point in time the USA Dollar is super-strong.

One of the first things for us to do when we hear such a statement as USA Dollar is weak,

is to check the standing of the USA Dollar with the primary important currencies of the woild.

Currently 74 USA Cents can buy 1 Canadian Loonie.

Currently 1 USA Dollar can buy 17 Mexican Pesos.

Year to date, the USA Dollar is up 42.9% against Brazilian Real.

Up 16.9% against Canadian Loonie.

Up 15.5% against the Mexicano Peso.

Up 11.1% against the Euro.

The list goes on and on with USA up compared to most of the important currencies

of the woild.

[The information above is extrapolated from the WSJ column headed 'CURRENCIES' and

is from the WSJ issue of 9 Dec 2015 Page C4].

Having a 'strong' currency is not a great or even good thing.  Perhaps good 'bragging rights'

for some Murkins!  However, this hurts the Export Markets for the USofA.  Having a high

value and strong Dollar reduces exports from the USA.  Yes, having a strong Dollar helps buy

more stuff on the world market, but that doesnt do any good for the balance of trade figures.

Another article concerning exports: WSJ 7 December 2015 Page C1:

Headline: "Wheat Exports Shredded".  Writ by Jesse Newman.

This article explains the current problems of exporting wheat.  The 'strong Dollar' puts our

wheat prices at the highest end of the wheat range.

Por ejemplo:  Wheat used for baking flour USA price is $205 per ton.

French wheat ...about $193 per ton.

Ukraine or Russian shipped from Black Sea port... about $194 per ton.

So, someone might say; Big deal, that is only a few bucks per ton difference.

Ah, but wait.... when buying 100 million tons of wheat a few bucks per ton can be a huge

difference!

This is not a good thing for the Murkin wheat farmers.  This is a 'bad' thing... OPINION.

Summary: Is it ok to have a strong currency so folks can 'brag' aboudid?  The

strong currency situation is really not a good thing for the USofA.  Heron knows this from

personal job experience.  Opinion.

Re: --THE NEW COIN CHAT ROOM--

el Heron is pleased to advise the numismaticores grupo regarding an article from

the Wall Street Journal of 4 Marzo 2016 Page A-9. Writ by Giovanni Legorano:

Heron reports portions of this article entitled; "Italy Keeps Lira Holders in a Tender Trap".

This article is about the exchange of defunct currency replaced by the Euro.

There are times when posters enquire about this situation.

[Not so many nowadays due to the Coin & Paper Money chatboard being sorda 'buried'].

However, here is some info from that article:

Italy set a date of 28 Febrero 2012 as deadline for exchange.  Then Italy changed deadline

to 6 Dec 2011.  This was sorda a 'sneaky' move.  Caught a lot of folks holding Lire.

Then Italy stated that anyone that could prove they tried to exchange Lire for Euros could

possibly make the exchange.  A few holders of Lire could indeed prove their attempts.

However, that left an outstanding amount of LIre not exchanged.  Valued in Euros this

amount comes to 1,200,000,000.  Note: Some folks are still 'finding' cash in Lire that

had been hidden in various places. Such as a Croatian man that found 5 Billion Lire

that was hidden behind a fake wall in the house he inherited from his parents!

True? Perhaps. Heron cannot confirm this info.

French Franc:  Deadline for exchange was 17 Feb 2012.

Francs valued in Euros outstanding = 526,000,000.

Spanish Pesetas: Deadline 31 Dec 2020.

Niederlander Guilder: Deadline 1 Jan 2032.

Deutschland Mark: No Deadline!.

Mark outstanding valued in Euros = 6,550,000,000.

The non deadline for holders of Deutschland Mark was good news for some

folks holding a batch of Mark.  Good news indeed!

Perhaps this informacion can be used to assist folks that enquire.

Perhaps some younger members of the Paper Money & Coin chat board

will remember some of this info. Quizas? Quien Sabe?

Does anyone know what happened to the Impala guy?  Did he cross over

the great divide?

Regardos.

I have heard rumors that the impala guy is alive and well somewhere in the southern states. Kinda like a yankey in king aurthors court, but more like king james since everyone is protestant. There are hill billys but there aren't any hills because it's florida. And beach girls who try to act like california. El heron would be a ladies man here as he is real california. And would wow the inteligensia with this numismatico insight. We need el heron to visit.

Hola Impala!  your post of 4 Marzo 2016 2337 hrs:  It is good to know that Impala John

is still vertical.  Very good indeed.

Yes, it would be difficult to find any hindervaldtlers in Florida due to the very flat nature

of the area.  Highest point in Fla is Britton Hill, Walton County at 345 feets.

California has trees taller than that!

For example, the Redwood tree named Hyperion,

as of 2015, is............379.1 feets tall!

Heron did enjoy his TAD in Fla.  The fishing was excellent and super fun.

Coin Expos around Fla were also a lot of fun.  Especially the Clearwater Expos.

The Cubano food & coffee in Miami on Calle Ocho were super great!

The Italiano food at various restaurantes around Fla was also good.  Dino's in Miami...wow!

Yes, Fla was a fun place to be whilst on TAD.

Well, here's hoping all is well for you down there.  May no hurricanes fly in your direction...!

Best wishes.

I don't think there are hills in any part but I am alternating between west orlando and a place called mount dora. Which is not a hill and certainly not a mountain.
