Hate the discussion board format? Wish there was a place to have a running chat like in the old ebay chat rooms that they took away?
Here is the solution, one thread devoted to chatting about anything and everything about coins all in the same place.
Post whatever is on your mind. There is no official topic here. So let's get the chatting started.

Hola Koindog - one day in the summer of 1959, at the US Coast Guard Radio Station Cape May
our teletype [land line] went kaputski and transmitted something like is shown in your post of
23 March 2015 1223. The teletype machines were vintage 1920s! Fun stuff from the past.

Sometime during the past 4 or 5 months, mas o menos, we discussed the London Gold
Price Fixers. All 4 of them. Heron cannot remember what 'TOPIC' it was on.
Now there is NEWS regarding those 4 'fixers'. Some excerpts:
Wall Street Journal 20 March 2015 Page C-4:
Headline "SIX BANKS WILL TAKE PART IN NEW GOLD FIX''.
Yes, in addition to the previous 4 Bancos, Barclays, HSBC Holdings, Bank of Nova Scotia,
and Societe Generale SA, we can now add UBS AG. Why only are we adding ONE?
Because the 6th bank is to be named 'later'. [Resembles a baseball trade ey?]
This is your 'headsup' that there will now be 6 FIXERS of gold pricing. Apparently still
AM and PM 5 days per week. And the thot plickens. Regardvs,

Cut and paste my gobbligook into this Caesarian Shift decoder and set N = 9.

Dawg-gone! Heron lost his decoder ring somewhere on the grounds of
P.S. 5 in Suitland Merryland in spring of 1945.
[Heron could find no ref for Public School nr 5. Probably was torn down
many years pasado to make room for a burrito stand].

USA Dollar Status Report: From time to time we see folks stating that the USA
Dollar is weak. What we need to ask is, 'compared to what'? If we compare to the
Swiss Franken the current answer is yes, the USA Buck is slightly 'down' against
that currency.
However, against the primary currencies of interest, the USofA is performing quite
well, thankyou! Here are several examples:
Canadian Loonie is now worth .7956 in USD.
15.22 Mexican Pesos can be purchased by 1 USD.
Australian Dollar is now worth .768 in USD. Although not a 'major' currency of interest
to the USA, Heron thought he would add this for a comparison factor.
The USA Buck can now purchase 120 Japanese Yen.
The Euro is now valued at 1.06 in USD.
China [The now more Green than Red China we know] Yuan is 'unchanged'. This is
because the Yuan is 'pegged'.
What is the importance of this? As the USA Dollar gains strenth throughout
the woild, USA exports will decline. Imports will rise. And once again messing up the
'trade balance' situation.
Leave us not say that the USofA Dollar is weak. Except against the Swiss Franco.

I am currently looking to upgrade my Australian birthyear coin, so this development is a welcome one.
As it is for anyone buying coins originally denominated in Euros (on Ebay , or ...) 20% cheaper than a year ago!!
04-13-2015 08:45 PM
Hola TDZ - yes, Heron noticed that new 'difference' with the Euro. Perusing some areas
where items are listed in Euros we can see that there are some 'bargains' available now...!
Good luck & good hunting! Regards,

If you are talkin about 1943 USA Cent Pieces, Heron remembers those well. One a those would
buy 2 pieces of hard candy. No chocolatay of course, it being the middle of WWII for the USofA.
As for the 1943 CENT pieces being zinc-coated steel, we dint care a-tall. Just having a few was
a big treat! Yes, them were the good ol days NOT! Ha. Regardvs.
