OT-Favorite Band/Music ~ Reading C&PM

Hello Friends,

I thought I would mix it up a bit and ask what people listen to (if anything) while reading & posting here. Music is a huge part of my life (for better or worse) but it is always a constant. Does anyone here have a favorite group/band that they listen to and would like to share that with everybody?

I will take that next step. My favorite band is Steely Dan and I listen to "AJA" quite often full blast with my JBL L-112's flexing their might and reading the posts here. It is a cool experience for me and I am in hopes that those who listen to music while perusing this board will share what they listen to. 🙂 No right,no wrong, no scam; it is what it is. Do tell...

Richard, the only way that I can get that photo to appear is to hit the Reply button and then hit "Quote".  I can't even copy and paste it into Irfanview.  I don't recognize the photo, so who is it?

I know that you were responding to my last post but it doesn't look like Benatar.

Oh sorry about that Bill... It is Natalie Merchant. She used to front the band 10,000 Maniacs in the 90's.

Southern I did and thank you.

The more you explain it, the more I don't understand it.

wow, good call Richard, thanks for reminding me of Natalie Merchant, she was one of my go to voices from the 90's (like Sarah Mclachlan and Joan Osborne).

But I never looked her up on Youtube.  Found a really cool video while looking. But now I need to hear the original too, so after the first is the original version (love this song).  It reminds me that we are all gifted.  And have purpose.

Ah yes, Fever Tree.  Another band from Houston.

Back in the early '80s, I used to work with John Tuttle (the drummer).  He used to crack me up with his spot on impersonations of JFK.

May as well post their biggest hit, San Francisco Girls (Return of the Native)

 Hi Lori,

Your welcome and here is the "money shot" from that famous MTV Unplugged concert...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw2KN3Oz56s&list=RDXw2KN3Oz56s

It is the best cover of the song that Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen wrote. "Because the night". I like the the raw vocals including the voice deflection on the chorus bridge "take me now". Pretty awesome  raw live stuff...

Oh yeah I just have to say that while watching one of my favorite comedies from the 90's (The Big Lebowski), I discovered an interesting fact....

Kenny Rogers and the First Edition are a fantastic band. Not sure if it is the same guy that made the gambler song but I love this song in the movie soundtrack.

Yes Richard.  Rogers (another native Houstonian) fronted The First Edition before going out on his own solo career.

Re: OT-Favorite Band/Music ~ Reading C&PM

Shake Russell relocated from MO. to TX. back in the '70s and has always been popular here.  Most of his hits have been covered by everyone and their brother (even Waylon Jennings and his wife recorded their version of Shake's hit Deep In The West).  This song was co-written with Dana Cooper and recorded live at a local radio station back in 1979, so in the first few seconds of the song, you will hear the DJ talking to Dana Cooper.  This is one of the songs that was included in Shake's hit album Songs on the Radio which was recorded at the KLOL studio here in Houston.  I'm not really sure how you would classify Shake's music but he does have a great voice.

Shake does the lead vocals and Dana Cooper does the backup vocals.

So how is Joni doing ? I have not heard any updates which is always a good thing regarding the ghouls in the news biz.

Getting her due respect or vice versa? lol From the best band to do a documentary from one of the best directors ever....

Love the storytelling lyrics here because you can just feel part of it.
