Warning to gold coin buyers: I was sold a replica of the 2015 Canada $50 1 oz Maple Leaf (see pictures). The fake is easily recognizable as it measures 40 mm instead of 30 mm and weighs 30 g instead of 31. It looks dull and nothing like gold, and it smells like base metal, but it is not magnetic, maybe bronze?

Was the price you paid too good to be true, or in line with the price of the Real McCoy?

40mm & 30g sounds about right for bronze... depending on thickness of course...

It looks a bit more like brass.

Is brass as rare and expensive as gold?

of course...
Boy, let me tell you. If I found my Krugerrand collection to be made of brass, I would be one blankity-blank-blank'er.

Hola Dave G: your post of 24 Sept 2015 0722 hrs: And, if brass becomes equal in
value to gold, Heron will rejoice. Especially after acquiring all those Ching Dynasty
Brass Cash Coins!. ha!
Regardos.

Doug,
From his post I am almost 99.9% sure it was. Where else?

Brass. They actually now have 30mm 31.1g $50 maples with the DNA leaf, 2mm of gold plating, and a ngc label that matches to the exact coin and specifications match perfectly. It's only $25 us per replica coin. Only way to know for sure is send it to ngc. Even pawn shops will take bc the gold does not chip off

What country was the seller from? China maybe?

But remember that a Krugerrand is not pure gold, only 90 percent gold.
