Euro C&O Nr. 333 Pfalz-Mosbach-Neumarkt Silver Pfennig 1461-1499.

15 Agosto 2017:   Greetings to all coin collectors everywhere!   In the ongoing effort to assist in keeping the Coin & Paper Money chatting place alive,  Heron is pleased to 'report' the acquisition of Central & Oest Europa different issuing entity Nr 333.

Note:  Some of youse might remember that when Heron reported number 300, there was a bit of discussion about going onward towards 400.   Heron stated that he would be really pleased to reach 333.   It is a neat number.   However, it now appears that old Heron will possibly exceed 333.  Quien Sabe [who knows?]

This coin was acquired from a local Socal dealer.   Catalog Gutz206.

The Coin:  Pfalz-Mosbach Neumarkt - Pfennig - Silver - 14mm dia. - 1461-1499.

A comentario regarding the date.   This is a non-dated coin.  However,

apparently the HRE coin essperts can determine era by the design of

lion rampant in one of the 2 Coats of Arms depicted on coin.  Heron

must leave this to the Otto I and Otto II coin essperts.

This coin design is a 'continuation' of the coins originally issued by Otto

One 1410 to 1461.   Otto Two continued to use the same design but with

different dies made for the Silber Pfennig.

This is an Einseitiger coin.   Design on one side only.   Einseit.

Coin design:  Two Coats of Arms side by each.

A large Gothic 'O' at six oclock.

This 'O' is for Otto Mathematicus.  [Otto II]

Varieties Exist!

1410 - Pfalz-Mosbach partitioned from Palatinate.

1448 - Renamed Pfalz-Mosbach-Neumarkt when the Neumarkt ruler 'line' went

extinct.   Neumarkt was acquired by Otto I of Mosbach.

Heron will translate the German Neumarkt to English:  New Market.

1461 - Pfalz-Mosbach-Neumarkt inherited by Otto II, son of Otto I.

1499 - Otto II died childless.  Pfalz-Mosbach-Neumarkt reverts to Pfalz Electorate.

             No mas Pfalz-Mosbach-Neumarkt.

Notes:

Otto II had strong interest in astronomy and mathematics.  Hence his 'Title' of

Mathematicus.

Pfalz-Mosbach was created 1410 from Mosbach-Eberbach from the partition of

Pfalz after the death of Rupert III.   Pfalz-Mosbach created for Otto, son of

           Rupert III.

Pfalz-Mosbach-Neumarkt issued a Goldgulden coin dated 1498.  No, elHeron does not have one a these and is unlikely to ever own one a these coins.

Neumarkt info:  Town believed to have been founded by the Bavarii in 6th or 7th

        Century.

Neumarkt first mentioned in a document of 1135.

**This was another super fun acquisition for Heron.   The Palatinate area is great reading.  Also good for collecting different issuing entities.  Heron now has 6 different Pfalz entities in the old accumulation.   More could be added!

This past 30 days has been an interesting 'coin journey':

On 16 Julio we 'visited' Waldeck-Pyrmont.

22 Julio we visited Freiburg im Breisgau.

29 Julio we traveled to Olkusz Poland.

On 31 Julio we took a 'side journey' to Penang Island off west coast of Malaya.

9 Agosto we went to Fosdinovo of Duchy Massa & Carrera.

And now 15 Agosto we have returned the Germanian section of the Holy Roman

Empire.     Travels with coinage is super fun!   This is a great hobby.
