sagesaucer: I think it was published in a magazine first

before the text was reset and published as a book

and what you have is a bound copy of the text for the magazine.

Ask any question about any book Part II

satnrose We have a 1948 copy of Zora Neale Hurston's Seraph On The Suwanee - no Scribner's A and no dj.
BUT - there is a long inscription on the ffep, signed and dated by Hurston (May, 1949).

Without the A - not a first edition, right?

I've checked google and dogpile for the previous owner name but nothing - any other place to check for names?

How much does the signed inscription add to the value? Some high prices on addall even without dj but none are signed.
Thanks for any help on how to list this book - we have background on Hurston & this, her last book.

maybe it's in Who Was Who in America.

Not a first edition.

Too bad you missed this year's Swann's auction of African Americana

You could put it in for next year?

You can look at her other signed books and estimate how much her signature added to their value for those titles. To me i t looks like serious money

Did you do an ABE search? I think your copy is there.

From a variety of records I find that Caroline Abusamra was born Caroline FISHER in New Jersey. She was the wife of Joseph Abusamra. They had a son named Edwin who apparently married a woman named Lynda and may be living in Worcester, MA.

Caroline was likely a daughter of Charles A. and Ella R. FISHER, who were enumerated by the 1930 U.S. Census as residents of Worcester, MA. They had a 22-year-old daughter, Caroline S., listed as born in New Jersey. Her father was a Presbyterian clergyman.

jmgrobe: Thanks for the info. The first on the list sounded closest to mine, except this book still has the 193 pages. I wish more of the descriptions would have stated the size, as this one is small, and I think for all practical purposes wouldn't be actually used as a song book.
Thanks again. I'll try to keep that site for further reference.

^nevermind, dumb question. Pretty sure it's book club, though it doesn't have the dent.

I am trying to find the value of this book. I could find none online for sale. It is a Jewish schoolbook published in Leipzig, Germany in 1936. Author is Cilli Marx.
