I think you are right though Simon and Schuster did price the bottom corner of the flap in that period and I can't remember if that book was or not. I do know that they stated all printings, i.e. first printing, second printing on the copyright-page so the fact that it doesn't give any printing shows it is a book club. Also the trade jacket is very red and the book club is more pinkish, though j-pegs are not 100% accurate.

This is list of what technical books Powells is buying and I find it good for books scouting. Any of these brings at least good money on ebay if not great.

Re: John D. MacDonald's "The Executioners." First states "First Edition" on the copyright page. Price of 3.50 printed at bottom of front flap. So the copy the buyer got may have have been a later printing and not necessarily a book club.

Bionicear - Where did you get that from, because Simon and Schuster would normally say 'First Printing' and not 'First Edition'?

You're right, should be "First Printing." My mistake.

S&S usually states all printings and the fact that the copy mentioned doesn't state a printing makes it almost for sure a book club.

I cannot find this anywhere so is this book (that looks like nothing) worth anything? 1st edition National Velvet with no dj and the back is breaking away from the pages, I don't know what to call that. In otherwords it looks like it is in Poor shape? Thanks for the advise on this thread 🙂

Never mind it's worth about $5.00 in good condition. I'm still searching though.

Silent Spring I almost fainted. So what's worth without the DJ. And why didn't it come up for that much last time I did a search for pricing?
